Back in 2012, my co-founders and I were engineering students who spent every free moment on the water. Studying robotics by day and volunteering in ocean conservation by afternoon, we fell in love with water sports in the beautiful Clear Water Bay near our campus. Frustrated by having to row or use noisy gas motors to reach our favorite spots, we imagined a better solution. This is how ePropulsion was born.

Incubated at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), our startups goal was clear: innovate electric drive systems for boats to make boating cleaner and more enjoyable. We launched our first electric outboard in 2014, and what began as four friends with a dream has grown into a global leader in marine electric propulsion.

From day one, we havent set out to replace boating - we set out to enhance it. We believe electric boating is a celebration of everything that makes being on the water great. Its about hearing the wind and waves instead of engine noise, and leaving no oily residue or exhaust smell behind. Our motors are incredibly quiet and eco-friendly, yet deliver reliable power without the frequent upkeep gas engines demand.

In fact, ePropulsion was the first in our industry to introduce advanced technologies like brushless direct-drive (for maintenance-free simplicity) and Field-Oriented Control (FOC) for efficiency. The result is an electric propulsion system that is smooth, efficient, and virtually hassle-free. Choosing an ePropulsion outboard means choosing a better experience for yourself and a better outcome for the environment - a true win-win for boating enthusiasts.

ePropulsion was founded by engineers, and that innovative spirit remains our most valuable asset. Over the years we have funneled significant energy into research and development - roughly 20% of our revenue - resulting in dozens of proprietary technologies and over 200 patents to date. This engineering-driven culture means each team member is focused on creating value through innovation.

We pride ourselves on mastering core technologies (like our direct-drive motor design, intelligent motor controllers, and advanced cooling systems) that set our products apart from the competition. Our dedication to innovation has even led us into new frontiers such as smart marine connectivity and driver-assist systems, positioning ePropulsion as a trailblazer in next-generation boating technology.

But no matter how much we grow, we stay true to our roots - every solution we craft is driven by the question, "How can we make boating better for our users and the planet?"

What started with a single outboard motor has evolved into a comprehensive product lineup by 2025. Today, ePropulsion offers electric propulsion solutions for virtually every type of vessel, from a 0.5 kW portable motor to a 250 kW inboard system. For instance, our lightweight Spirit series (1 kW) has become a go-to portable outboard for dinghies and daysailers, and our Navy series (3-6 kW) serves reliably on fishing boats and tenders. In 2023, we unveiled the X-Series - our first high-performance outboards in the 12-40 kW range - marking a major step into powering larger boats with clean energy.

We've also developed inboard motors like the I-Series (10, 20, 40 kW) and the powerful H-Series (60-250 kW) for larger sailing yachts, catamarans, and commercial vessels. Sailors love our Pod Drive motors (1-20 kW) for their quiet, space-saving design, and even kayakers enjoy a boost from our ultra-light eLite motor. All our systems are supported by high-performance lithium battery packs (E-Series & G-Series) to ensure long range and reliable power on the water.

This broad range of products shares the same DNA - they are clean, quiet, and easy to use, with a focus on quality and durability that boaters can trust.

Here at ePropulsion, we are passionate dreamers and practical engineers. We're proud of how far we've come in the past decade, but in many ways this is just the beginning. The marine industry is on the cusp of a major transformation - currently only a small percentage of boats are electric, and we're determined to change that. As battery technology advances and awareness grows, we anticipate an accelerated adoption of electric boating in the next few years.

We plan to stay at the forefront of this movement by continuing to innovate and deliver the best electric propulsion systems in the world. Whether it's refining energy storage for longer range or adding smarter controls for easier operation, we never stop seeking ways to improve.
